I learned that he got the idea of the book by starting off with a character then devepoing from there.I also learned that Louis felt like the book was finished but instead he ended up writing 2 books after he had written holes.
From what I read from the link Luis sachar starts any book that he has created was just from writing about a place, then every thing just takes off: characters are developed then the plot. When he was writing holes he took a year in a half since he kept rewriting it to make it perfect.
I discovered that even though Holes its self is somewhat a simplistic book it takes a long time to write for the author because for the real reader you see the true story, but at the same time its also a book for younger kids its a great mix.
@Hitakshee the I also agree and I guess that when Louis started to write the book she was an evil character but in the end after he was done writing he it it changed so it fit the way the book was.
I also learned that he never intended for the book to be a bit scary because he just liked the irony of some scenes. He wanted Holes to be fun and adventurous but some people percieved it as a bit scary like the rattlesnake venom in the Warden's nailpolish.
I think that it was a good idea for changing the warden to Trout Walkers Granddaughter because Kissin' Kates more of a nice person and Trout walker is a Bad guy so it was a good choice
@Alyssa I agree but I think that the rattle snake venom in the nail polish was a good touch to the story to make the warden seem scary, not like other stories when they make the character have a scary perspective then how they act.
I learned that when he was writing the book he had put together the story of the cause of stanley' curse, by including his great grandfathers story. That way it wouldn't just be a really boring story of him just digging holes. "stanley dug his shovel into the ground as he scooped up another pile of dirt" readers would lose interest as soon as they read the first word for the twentieth time.
form the link i know that the warden wan't supoose to be scary, but many people think so. About the nailpolish mixing it with rattlesnake venom and threatens to scratch Stanley. Loius sachar didn't think it was scary but thought about his after his daughter told him.And he didn't want to write a scary story in the first place.
i read that Louis.S. didnt start with inventing characters first but with the place, Camp Green Lake. Most writers start with the characters then the place but Louis.S. started with the place not the characters first which is different and it worked out just fine.
Alyssa yea I guess so but in the link Louis said ages 9-12 to be recomanded to read the book so the readed woudl get the idea that the warden was scary but Louis never planned her to be scary in the first place
@ abdullahi the warden can't .....isn't from kate barlow 's family bcause she didn't have a family she died cause she got bitten by the yellow spotted lizard when the warden's great great grandfather tried to get her tell where all the stolen money was.
I learned that holes took a year and a half to write. Louis Sachar did many rewrites of the book before he was completely finished it. I also learned characters and stories can change a long the way , just like he changed Kissin' Kate from someone evil , to someone not so evil.
@ sharpshoter i agree with even though the book is smiple and the reading level is not our level, it has a lot of in-depth thinkinghaving to connect to stanley 's great great gradefather and zero's great great...grandmother.
The thing I learned is that Kate Barlow was supposed to be a completely evil character but ended up being something else.
ReplyDeletei learned that the warden was supposed to be Kate Barlow's great granddaughter but then she was changed to trout walkers family

ReplyDeleteYes, i agreee with you alyssa that Kate Barlow was supposed to be a completely evil but at the end he turned out to be something else.

I guessed that the warden was part of the Kate Barlow family because of how she knew about the treasure.

Alyssa i have to add on to that he also had a hard time making it child friendly so the little kids dont get scared
ReplyDelete@Stephanie yeah the venom does make her seem scarier but she already seemed scary from the beginning. I guess the venom just adds to that.
ReplyDelete@ abdullahi she's actually a part of the walker family since chewbacca, it was also a hint in the book when trout confronted kate.
ReplyDelete@Zak i agreee that even though the book is really simple and easy to read and a grade 5 level it did take a long time for the author to write it.

ReplyDelete@ hitakshee the reading level was easy but the depth of the story is good though.

@hitakshee, a book could be as long as 600 pages but in a level the pages dont matter the vocabulary, grammer and story line do
ReplyDeletei think that the warden started this camp to find the treasure not to make character cause when stanly found that thing the wrden went nut over it.

@El Zak , I agree .. it's a good book for younger kids and middle school kids , and it seems like a book everyone can enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI discoverd that it took Louis sachar 18 months to write holes, and that was the same amount of time Stanleys sentence was at camp Green Lake.
