Another current recent event is the breakdown in Libya. Just this weekend the UN (France, Britain, United States) took action and supported the rebel fighters.

I kind of feel this situation has to parts to it I feel the UN do want to help the civilians but I think there is a hidden agenda to this whole thing I may be wrong but those countries may just be interfering for the oil. And my argument to those that may disagree is why did the US leave Somalia after a short time of peacekeeping but have such a continued presence in Afghanistan I think it was for the oil. So to save their own best interests these countries may have entered looking like they wanted to help I could be wrong though.

I dont know why this man doesnt want to step down. He now has most of his country against him, plus the united nations with huge armys like the US, Canada, France, Italy, the British. Not to mention that Libya Has no army, to fight back with, he is only using it to kill his own people. I dont know how one person can handle all that. A leader is supposed to look after his people and do whats right, not kill them for what they know is right.
ReplyDelete@BENG I think Libya do have an army but I agree that he should step down before everything gets out of hand.
ReplyDeletetough to step down when in power for so long...where would he go and what would become of his wealth and power
ReplyDeletehidden agendas and self interest often the reason behind military intervention
ReplyDelete@Mrcheney I think he would probably be charged with many war crimes and probably put in an international jail of some sort for life.
ReplyDelete@ el presidente Libya doesnt have that much oil as a natural resourse i think, as to countries like egypt and saudi arabia. If they did they would probably have a bigger army like for fuel etc. and that would probably be a big story and another problen on top of libyas head, to probably shut it down, like Egypt and the south canal.
ReplyDeleteWell, I actually don't know much about what's going on in Libya. But from what I've read is that it's a fight going on for oil and Muammar el-Quaddafi is the leader of the rebels but I'm not entirely sure. Then late Sunday, the UN sent a bomb to bomb the leaders ground forces.
ReplyDeleteI think this was the right thing the United Nations did cause Libya was going out of control with all those riots and protests and now i think the head will think about what decision to make reasonably cause its better to step down then to get killed.
ReplyDeleteQaddafi has gone mad with power because he gotten the whole country against him and he thinks that he is so high in power that he doesn't want it to be taken away from him. the man realizes that now he is the most hated person in this planet. What makes him think that violence will keep him in charge
ReplyDeleteIn my opinoin all this is happening in the Arab world because the leaders have been leading for to long with very little impact. They have done the civillans bad, promising one thing but doing the other. All the citizens are trying to do is replace the leaders with better leaders so the country can be a better place to live in. The power has gone to their heads and they wiil do anything to keep having that power even if it means to destroy their own country, the country that they grew up in when the were small, the country that they love so much and just to keep that power going, they hurt or kill inicent people. He has gotten the whole world aganist him. What was he thinking? Would you do that if you were in this situation?
ReplyDelete@mr. Cheney What wealth and power?? All his bank accounts are frozen, and most of his people are against him anyway. I woldnt listen to a man who did nothing good for his country and his killing his own people.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing is that thats his problen now because because if he steps down he has no where to go hide. I have a good feeling that he wont step down but will be killed, because right now no one likes him.
@adam I just read an article on bybuissness and it says Libya is the third largest exporter of oil in Africa thats still a lot of oil.
ReplyDeleteI think Qaddafi’s lying about the civilian casualties so he can get the UN out of Libya and stop the attacks so his Man dont die so there attacks can be stronger against the rebels and i think what Banki-Moon said about stopping the attacks were useless because there still gun fire in libyan streets but im not fully sure about it but like i said its going to be useless because with all the gun fire and Qaddafi most likely not going to surender its pointless
ReplyDeleteI agree with tarundeep because it really puts the pressure on him. I don't think they are going to kill him though because the United States said he is not a target.
ReplyDeleteAnd to put into perspective the effect the war in libya is having heres a line from bybuissness.net . The impact of the escalating war in Libya beat a drop in demand following the factor of earthquake Japan and China policy of monetary tightening.
ReplyDelete@ abdullahi not yet at least
ReplyDelete@El Presidente what does that line mean? Does that mean that the impact of the war going on in Libya is greater than the quake in Japan?
ReplyDeletei agree with zak a lot of countries have armies just in case anything happens they wouldn't just leave it open like that.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. began moving air and naval forces closer to Libya. Moammar Gadhafi's opponents hold nearly the entire eastern half of the country, including the stronghold of Benghazi. Gadhafi is making his stand in Tripoli.
ReplyDeleteok this man needs to stop and step down,i agree with adam like it is kind of easy to step down because if the eygptian pres.can do it so can this dude.
ReplyDeletesharpshooter you are right why would some so stupid make their country fight against advanced countries,i mean the inocent have to fight and what did they do....nothing!!
ReplyDeleteSo basically everyone in the world hates this Quaddafi person because he is fighting other countries and innocent people are dying. But why is he so obsessed with power? Is there something he wants? Like money or something?
ReplyDeleteDespite a renewed sense of momentum for the regime. Over the past few days, Col Gaddafi's forces have taken Zawiya and Ras Lanuf. Necessity of a no-fly zone, let alone further military action. And it is clear that the rebels do not enjoy the full-throated support of swathes of the defected army, with many thousands of troops in the east still uncommitted. I think this crises will go on forever because once Col Gaddafi has past away his son will take over and the fighting will go on. Maybe the US army will take over but its not guaranteed that Gaddafi's forces will go down so easyly.
ReplyDelete@ Aylssa this man is crazy to me he is not only putting his country at risk but he is putting his people at risk and would what i find more shocking is that this all comes from Africa.Right now there could be a whole bunch of people getting ready to ruin his life, but if I was that guy I would step down and start creating peace around the land of LIBYA.
ReplyDeletesory i meant within the land of LIBYA.
ReplyDeleteI just saw on cnn that that they dont have enough money to keep fighting in libya. the G is taking money from the Fema and cut the budget for nuclear waste disposal, to 2.8 M which is the price for only 2 tomahawk missals
ReplyDeletehere is the link
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/03/22/exp.tsr.bash.critics.libya.cost.cnn?hpt=C2
@Alyssa Col Gaddafi will not go down so easyly, it will take a fight to take him off his throne. He wants no money, just power. Even after Gaddafi dies his son will take over and keep this thing going on. He wants nothing but power. But what I dont get is Gaddafi is still telling all of libya that everything is Ok and just keep listening to me. And hes telling wrong things about the US army.
ReplyDeleteBut even before the egypt crises Libya was still in crises. After Egypt won the riot, Libya felt this power "like if Egypt could do it then we can do it too". Thats how the riot in Libya happpened. They couldn't take it anymore. "Gaddafi must go down they said".
@ Ben G
ReplyDeleteLibya Does in fact, have a lot of oil, They supplied BP (British Petroleum), the company that had that oil spill in the atlantic. Just to clarify that.
@Alyssa
ReplyDeleteGaddafi is not the leader of the rebels, He is against them, with his army, and police forces, the rebels are just civilians, or army officials that chose to leave the side of Gaddafi. Just to clarify.
Qaddafi uses force to take control over the rebels...That just shows how bad a leader he his. He's committing crimes against humanity.By bombing the rebels and killing them in the ways they can,the remaining Libyan population will continue to follow Qaddafi's regime.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely terrible, the rebels must overpower Qaddafi but this vicious cycle will continue to go on and on.The rebels will try to overthrow, they get attacked, they fight again, and they get beaten. If this continues to go on,the Libyan population could downsize significantly,if it hasn't already decreased.
A U.S. fighter jet crashed in Libya after an apparent equipment malfunction but both crewmembers were able to eject and are back safely in American hands, the two were separated after ejecting from the crippled F-15E Strike Eagle jet at high altitude and drifting down to different locations.
ReplyDeleteThis was said on Yahoo news. @Adam now not just they dont have enough money, but they lost alot of money for those two jets. This could get worse for US and better for Gaddafi.
@ egyptin pharoh and el presidente, my bad i diddnt know because because when ever they talk about libya on the news, they never say anything about their oil, which i think is a big deal.
ReplyDeleteZak istill dont think though that the Us is going to go into libya to get oil. the US is partners with saudi arabia, and when ever they need oil, they trade with them. Obama has a problen now because they dont have enough money to fight in libya, i left a link on that on my last post
I think that Gaddafi is power hungry, hasn't he had enough? He's been ruling Libya for what? 40 years? He had his moments, some conflicts with the US a few decades ago, a speech to stop a civil war from happening to lead to his capturing of the hearts of Libya's people leading to his election. Ever since then, he's been ruling Libya. But its not like he was an evil leader, he's just powerhungru, doesn't want to leave his position. He's a dictator, but he did bring good to his country, in the 1990s, Libya was and still is a very wealthy country, due to numerous deals with countries around the world buying their oil, and other natural resources. Because of the stoppage of oil shipments from Libya, I believe that's why the gas prices have risen so high, in all my life I have never seen the price of gas hit $1.20
ReplyDeleteThe fastest way to actually end this whole problem would be to assassinate the leader. If the whole UN made an army to go in and kill off the leader by missle strike, and a world leader that is against Qaddafi stepped in,the government could reform into a democratic one.We could donate to the people so they rebuild.
ReplyDeleteAs the idea may be a fast solution,we can't kill people. It's not possible to just walk in and kill,is it?
@pharoah As Qaddafi did do some good to his country, think about all the people that had their voices not heard.Qaddafi may be informed by surveys or other means of aquiring information of the public, but is it possible to have the key components and views of a successful country if there isn't democracy? Is there an actual example of a successful country with dictatorship, that doesn't have rebels?
ReplyDeleteI wonder about North Korea...
If Qaddafi is hungry for a strong empowerment of Libya, there must be a goal set in his mind. What has he been planning for (or has started planning) in those 4 decades of dictatorship that he has continued to withhold? Could it be some type of war or elimination of a group of people by a personal bias he may have?
ReplyDeleteThere has to be a reason why Qaddafi may be power hungry,or it is to just avoid poverty or failure/meaninglessness as Mr.Cheney had vaguely commented in the earlier posts.
