I don't think sean saw anything besides a glimpse of light/hope.
Even if he saw the wheel chair it would be a miracle because it might even take his whole life to get his legs fixed .. but david is in denial thinking that his legs will be fixed in a day and a cure would be found .. buh it depends on hope. so i think sean never saw anything besides a glimpse of a shining light.
David was probably rolling near the edge to look at the river and he rolled down the hill by accident, and he hit trees on the way down, and it made his legs feel better because he had patches in his legs that could feel sometimes, and when he got to the bottom of the cliff he tryed to walk because his legs felt weird so he was seeing if he could walk again, and he could, and he left his wheelchair there,thats the miracle :)
I think Sean saw some of David's old wheelchair that David pushed down the gorge during the day when he wasn't at school. He was angry because he was thinking of all the memories from when he wasn't in a wheelchair. He was sad at first but then got angry because now he can't do what he could before.
i think that sean saw a piece of metal that was thrown down because the owner no longer needed it since the river and the gorge are close to the factory and i think david is sane enough to think about what he might be losing fior example maybe doctors would find a cure a few years after he dies (if he went suicide)and sean sould know david better than that because david said he would throw his wheelchair down when he was walking again

true rukis but there could be a chance david could be might of fell in deep depression and tryed to commit suicide there are chances because if you can understand the character of david you would understand that he feels that he should dies or just be going around to random people and getting mad with them.

also it could be that sean saw some metal instead of thinking it's david's wheelchair,and he thinks that he doesn't have to worry about david ,he can take care himself.and he goes home to get ready for his date.whlie he is waking home he thinks daivd he somewhere near his home thinking about what happen the day before at dinner. and sean thinks that david's mom said was right.about thinking about the cure too much,which was not going to happen in few decades.if he think he'll walk again, but that not possible and when he finds that he is going to be really upset.so he should think about it and move forward in his live instead depending on the cure to help his live to move forward.

Everyone thought the whole main theme was about david walking again but at the end it is really about sean and david making a stronger relationship for there friendship, it is bulding stronger everyday.
