Rebound V

David breaking down into tears and sobbing in his lap while looking out over the cliff says what about David's character traits and emotional state.

Does this moment with Sean signify a significant change in Davids view on himself and the world.

  2. i think it means that david isnt as tough as he wants people to think he is or appears to be. and it may look like that david wouldnt suicide that hes in a wheelchair, and he doesn't let anybody else see that hes sad because hes in a wheelchair

    ReplyDelete
  3. indeed hes is finally fully acepting seans friendship and is allowing him to try to understand, before there was a wall that he put up emotionally so no one even his parents could come close to him after the accident hes changing indeed signifiganctly

    ReplyDelete
  4. yes it shows that he changed his view since he actually has a friend, it also shows that david isn't all tough actually he has a soft spot.

    ReplyDelete
  5. that he hides who is is probably.... ithink that he acts tough, because hes on a wheelchair to show people that he is stong and that you couldnt mess with him... but he truly is a softy on the inside :)

  6. At this point david is in this position where he is Poignant (emotional) and sean maybe thinking that david isn't who he appears to be and who he thought he was like tough and strong. I guess david had enough with legs and he just gives up right now and he has no hope that there will be a cure.

  7. Maybe being really "tough" is knowing when you can cry

    ReplyDelete
  8. it says that david may come across as a tough guy, always picking fights and everything but he has a soft spot too.i think it signifies a change in davids views of himself and the world because he will realize that he has a really good friend and a family and lots of other things to live for.

  9. blue jays he is a softy because he actually stopped snapping at sean and let him be his friend

    ReplyDelete
  10. i think that david was in a shell to small and to tight and he wanted to break free and sean helped him realize this and helped him break free from that small tight shell

    ReplyDelete
  11. nida what you said was a bit confusing. could you explain a bit more of what you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  12. thats not soft thats a change in character he didnt snap at sean because hes changed not becasue he was a tough guy

    ReplyDelete
  13. maybe David's tears are very telling of how complex he is and thus we are.

We cant be described in a word!

    like - soft

    ReplyDelete
  14. it says that alot of people think that he is just a tought guy when he has a soft spot just like most people.

    ReplyDelete
  15. when sean put his arm around david and david didn't do anything i was pretty surprised. i was expecting david to start snapping at sean but seeing as he didn't i think david was pretty upset.

    ReplyDelete
  16. well hes a softy because... he changed and actually is a nice person inside and can let people into his life

    ReplyDelete
  17. @ stephanie what do you mean by most people have a soft spot?

    ReplyDelete
  18. kayy, if it was confusing ill write it again. i think it means that david isnt as tough as he wants people to think he is or he appears to be. and it may look like that david wouldnt suicide just because hes in a wheelchair, but david actually does think about suciding because hes in a wheelchair. and he doesn't let anybody else see that hes sad.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Is david still the tough guy or did he turn 'soft' because he 'sobbed'?

    ReplyDelete
  20. i think that david is kind of losing hope of walking again and accepting friendship with sean and maybe now he is trying to ubderstand that having to much blindfaith in yourself is good but you can't say that it is always going to come true.so if it does not come true then you accept your lose and carry on with your life. we also know that david is a tough guy from outside but from inside he has soft feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  21. rukis:) i think that was a great way to give an explation of what david was feeling instead of saying he has a soft spot

    ReplyDelete
  22. i agree with alyssa that when sean put his arm around david, david didnt do anything because he probaly just needed a friend to talk too, and i was suprised as well that david didn't get mad, because if they werent in a situation like that then i think david would have been mad at sean for putting his arm around him

    ReplyDelete
  23. i think that david may act has he is stonge but now we know that he has soft feelings.i think that david is realizing that the cure he was hoping to cure him is not going to happen and he got to expect his life the way it is.

  25. I think that Davids really not a tough person on the inside but because of what he went through reality made him different than what he knows he was. reality changed his face on the outside and he was known and the tough guy but really he is a emotional and sensitive guy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ hitakshee i agree with you about having to much blind faith and accepting friendship with sean because i beleive, that david beleives that sean is his only true friend :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes Nida, it seems apparent that David was suicidal and had reached the fatal moment of not caring and just not wanting to deal with it anymore. Perhaps a miracle that Sean followed through dispite his hesitations to find David.

Imagine the kind of life Sean would continue to live if he had just gone on his date with Caroline, only to learn later that David had gone off the cliff.

each choice has a impact on our future-even if we realize it or not

  28. ULTIMATE DRAGOVIAN has finally logged on...

Yes,it shows a change in David's view.He must think that he is nobody in this world, and that nobody cares. He might justify that statement by saying that the cure hasn't been discovered yet.David's thinking of being angry at the world is totally ridiculous.David has no right to be angry at the world,it was out of his power that he lost the power to move his legs.Of course, that wouldn't really work in real life if the ''victim'' is in this state of anger and addrenaline, because he/she wouldn't realize that. When it actually happens to you, giving up probably won't change your point of view.

  29. talwinder just because you cry doesn't mean you turned soft

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree with hitakshee because he is losing faith of walking so he is getting out of the denial he was in earlier the boook and in blindfaith .. Refutation is another word describing this situation

    ReplyDelete
  31. i think this was one of the times were david could be very soft and not tough. but what i think is that when davids always trying to act cool and brave and be a daredevil n tough, n all that; he's rally a softy inside who's embarrsed that he's in a chair, so acts like it doesn't bother him at all, when it acutally does.

    ReplyDelete
  32. talwinder, i think that david might have been acting tough because he had alot going on and he was probaly confused about him suciding and things must have been hard for him at that time and he didnt turn soft just because he sobbed he sobbed because he probaly got hurt and he realized it was a stupid idea or everything that he gone threw in his life for example the wheelchair, he must have never thought about that alot and he probaly bottled it up and now he finally let everything out

    ReplyDelete
  33. David inside is soft and caring but through out the book he doesn't accept it. Now when he herd Sean saying he's his friend. The true him is coming out.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sharposhooter i was curious and i was wondering if david turned soft because everybody is saying that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @ rukis what do you mean by that metaphor?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I do not understand what you mean by that metaphore

    ReplyDelete
  37. @killa it could be a moment of weakness,or maybe David just realized who he is.I don't think david was really thinking twice about all the ridiculous escalator jumping or j-walking (or is it j rolling?)

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ talwinder... well everybody has there own wayy or discription of a softy ... and my discription of a softy is that he isnt afraid to cry... and that he changed and can actually let people into his life... :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. dragonian david has the right to be angry that ultimate strike of misfortune is indeed something to be angry about but he shouldnt wallow in self pity forever he has to move on but being angry for a while is his right.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with you niida .. he did seem Perplexed.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @brownkid I think the accident made David's spirit crush down and down again. He's just been trying to do things a ''normal'' person could do to keep his mind off suicide.Suicide must of been considered on multiple occasions I think.

    ReplyDelete
  42. what i mean is that david kept his feelings to himself most of the time and didnt let anyone get to close but sean helped him with that by being his friend no matter how many times david yelled at him ..... also when a hermit crabs shell gets small it has to move on and find a bigger shell

    ReplyDelete
  43. Talwinder I think that david is a soft guy but he wants that to be hidden from the rest of the world

    ReplyDelete
  44. i mean lots of people have soft spots but they try to hide it from other people but then david finally decided to let it all out

    ReplyDelete
  45. Before the insident David must of been kind and loves his life but after the insident he lost hope and gave up his life

    ReplyDelete
  46. Rukis has made a great comment...it true of all of us. We are trapped by our own limitations and fears ect...and it takes a special moment where we have the confidence to be all that we can be. Free to be who we are regardless of judgment and doubters.

and at that moment when David sobbed he didn't care about being judged, he did what he felt he needed to do< and that was cry

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Elpresidente prime, anger isn't going to solve anything.Anger will just lead to more pain, and the inevitable, death! David has to suck it up and live his life,he just needs to find some other pastime that he may have an affinity for.

    ReplyDelete
  48. it hink what makes david angry is that he bottles up all his feeling his anger and also that will result on his angerness towards other people if he keeps this up he will might end up killing someone and that is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  49. el presidente what would describe as a softy then?

    ReplyDelete
  50. david kept to himself alot but sean wanted to help him forget about his chair and ignore his difference between other people and to live his life more freely..........ok Tamil and thomas??

  52. @Mr Cheney David sobbed just because he can't handle all the burden he has.Anyone would crumble down and weep if they had as many burdens, but it won't solve anything.David will just live a sad, short life complaining everyday, being judged. He'll die and then far in the future there might be a cure, but then again, doctors can't solve human problems.Maybe it was just meant to be like this.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ vanessa are you sure that will be the outcome he might just have an emotional meltdown instead

    ReplyDelete
  54. yeah i agree with what zak said because there was a wall between david and sean but now there dosen't seem to be a wall anymore or the wall has weakened between them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. what does the hermit crabs small shell have to do with david rukis?

    ReplyDelete
  56. @Sam David will just repeat this pattern of pathetic attempts to end what needs to be ended again and again. The media he might use may be different each occasion, but until he decides its time to end it now,it'll go on until he dies one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @AMRIT how does he want to be hidden from the whole world?

    ReplyDelete
  58. el presidente it is right to be angry but he is acting like a baby he is beleiving at things that might years and years and he things its going to be healed in 6-7 months. He might not even get is cure. so he should learn to get on with is life

    ReplyDelete
  59. @sharp david is not a softy liek mrcheney said hes much more complex than that in a word davids compliacated

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ ultimate dragovian so you mean that it is like the path way project there are many diffrent out comes

    ReplyDelete
  61. hes not acting like a baby hes hanging on to a hope thats getting him threw life i agree though he has to eventually live his life the way it is

    ReplyDelete
  62. ultimate dragovian anger dosen't have to lead to death. it may or it may not. it may if you hold it in (like david) but if you tell someone, it may not so death is not really inevitable.

  64. but sean might encourage david to let his feelings out and get away from the cliff so then dave's mom would be happy that dave is safe. so the case could be that everytime that david feels suicidal he can go and talk to someone close to him about it and make it all better so he doesnt kill himself.

    ReplyDelete
  65. yea i dont think david is as mean as he seems he really cares from the inside , but daves mom will wonder wat happened to him u know how hes bloody adn harmed but i just think now hes gonna go home with sean and might like sean BETTER as a freind or even best freind

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well i would answer this question , but i dont really get it. Anyone want to help me out :| ?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Pamela as far as i know this question means : When david turned the oppsite direction of sean he started to cry what does this make him look like?

Sean used to think him as a tough guy and everything what do you think he will think now?

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Alyssa David is too stubborn to change now,why would the author make him change his mind and avoid suicide now? It just has to end the story with a watery and bloody grave. And even if he did tell someone close to him, what difference would it make? The pain and sorrow would sneak back up on him and lead him into misery later.

    ReplyDelete
  69. @Ultimate Dragovian, you seem certain that once one has started along a path then there is no way to jump paths along the journey of life. Thus you are convinced that David is destined to commit suicide. Perhaps it is not that uncommon for David or any person to be able to find the strength to get past difficult times and not fall victim to a predictably destructive path. I think there are many real life examples of people overcoming the types of pain and conflict David is dealing with (recovering Alcoholics, War Veterans, Abused). Lets hope David finds the strength to shift gears or start a new path in his journey of life. But also not be simplistic and assume that switching paths is an easy task for David or anybody else.

getting through tough times is physically and emotionally challenging

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ULTIMATE its more than possibel there is a high chance because now he has a caring friend in the shape of sean who wont let him give up or as u say succumb to self destruction.
