Listen to the narrative on John Brown and his actions.
post comments while the lecture is in process...agree/disagree/questions
this is a new type of learning. We are listening to a lecture but at the same time engaged in a lively debate. It may be difficult to always follow both but thats ok its part of the process.
Wow, one of the first stock market crashes, one hundred thousand job losses in New York, fifty thousand in Philedelphia.
ReplyDeleteThe speach that we did yesterday was very fast and its kind of hard to understand.
ReplyDelete@egyptian I didnt catch the cause did you?
ReplyDeletewhat did it have to do with the stock market?since i heard they were crashing down.
ReplyDeleteJohn Browm was born in conneticut. He got married in 1820,he has 20 children from 2 wives and 9 of them died,he belived in the old tesement.
ReplyDeleteWhos john brown?
ReplyDeleteJohn brown was born in orington caniticut.
He grew up in the witness reserve. And his first real encounter with a slave was when he saw a slave being beaten. What sustianed him was his faith after many low points in his life. He believed in an eye for an eye. And punished others with motiac punishment.
John Brown believed that violence in righteous cause was like purification...In this case,it was the butchering of slave owners.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that John Brown did the wrong thing because from what I've researched and heard, he thought slavery was so bad that the only way to destroy it was by violent measures. He is almost like George Bush because some people think he is a hero and others think he's terrible like how people think of John Brown. That is what I think.
ReplyDelete@ El presidente I did not catch the cause, though i have some inferences about what happened.
ReplyDeleteWould anyone refresh my memory?
* 9 of his children died from disease
ReplyDelete* he never voted
* married in 1820
John brown came to belive that violence for a righteous reason was liek purity. By the time his intrest in kansas was growing he was living in northern new york. He went to kansas to fight in kansas new border war.
ReplyDelete-married in 1820
ReplyDelete-he never voted
-9 of his children died from disease
i agree that slavery repersented an war becuse north was againt it and the south wanted to have and saw nothing wrong with it.
ReplyDeletejohn brown was born in conneticut . at the age of 12 he was witnessed in slaveery.
ReplyDeleteWow John brown married 1820 had 20 children 2 wifes and 9 died
ReplyDeleteWould you beleive in his ideology if you were placed in a desciocion where something you believed in wasnt going to plan?
ReplyDeletemoney problems in counties are often solved by war
ReplyDeletestrange that he waged war against the south but never voted or joined a political party
ReplyDeleteseems to be working for himself.
@Thomas I am also wondering what the stock market crash has to do with John Brown.
ReplyDeletePro-slavers sacked and burned the capital of anti-slavery in Kansas, so John Brown wished for revenge, As he thought, "An Eye For An Eye". I believe that was one of his main morals leading him to where he went
ReplyDeleteJohn brown wanted to attack americas largest military base at hapers ferry. John brown wanted kansas to remain free soil.
ReplyDelete@heli , i agree with you because its true and the south wanted it and would do really anything to have salves and to fight for it and the north is strongly against that
ReplyDeletejohn brown was born in kineticit and witnessed a slave that was being beaten with 20 children but 11 survived. he punished his children and employees with vengence. he states that slavery is war and that you can do anything you want. one spring john brown was on the road and found that a slave was being beaten while john was on the move.
ReplyDeletegot married twice had 20 kids but only 11 survived to adulthood belived violence at good causewas right at purification,5 sons went west to kansas in late 1854 letters to father talking about slaves and asking him to go and he went launched financing campain to take war to africa but meaning the south
ReplyDeleteHe established a base where he oculd train other abolisinists. He called a confrence in chatham ontario to get people to join his abolistionist cause. He really was either determined or deranged.
ReplyDelete-spent a month in fredric douglases attic
ReplyDelete-doesnt give many details
jonh brown had twenty children from two wives 9 died befor being adults he belived he traveled almost all of america. He and his sons pulled slave owners out of there house's and killed them. they lit a hotel on fire and killed 6 people
ReplyDelete- John brown was born in conneticit,
ReplyDelete- at age 12 we witnessed a slave being beaten...
- he got married in 1820,
- he has had less than 20 children with 2 diffrent wifves.
- 9 of his kids died from diseases
- he got married in 1820

john brown was born in connecticut, and witnessed at age 12 "§LÄVERY" he hadn't a need to join the anit-slaery organizations, because of peoples thoughts as it was evil.
ReplyDeleteHe spent a various amount of year in hiding,
: IM NOT DONE YERT FOLKS!!
John brown was born in connecticut
ReplyDeleteat age 12 he witnessed slavery
John and his sons pulled slave owners out of there house's and killed them
John never joined any anti-slavery organizations
He was in hiding
wow a connection to John Brown and George Bush!!!! i see it, great cnnection to the modern world.
ReplyDeleteBad economies and stock market crashes leave many people unemployed and that tends to make society angry and ripe with issues like slavery and such like to come to violent ends. More people can and will gain support for extremists when the normal seems to be struggling (in this case unemployment)
one of the key reasons to Hitlers rise and his creating of the Nazi war regime was the world wide great depression of 1929...Dictators and extremists can win over doubters when things are not going well.
we shall finish tomorrow when the narrative gets more detailed and more exciting.
i just want to know if we are doing the movie ?
ReplyDeleteabout the underground railroad
because black history assembley is next month
I agree with Heli black history month is next month and we havent started
ReplyDelete@heli we should start now because we have the idea we cant wait for a formal invitation over the weekend everyone whos interested should write a draft for a script.
ReplyDeleteviolent began to break out
ReplyDeletei was just thinking when we want to show the slaves working in the fields or something like that we can paint the background instead of going outside in the cold
ReplyDeletealso i found this website it tells a journey of a slave using the underground railroad
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/railroad/j1.html
For the scenes we still could do it outside because the underground railroad was in the winter too not just the summer.
ReplyDeleteWhen should we start writing the script and coming up with scenes and sets? Also, who wants to do what for the movie (act, film, write the script etc.) And what day is the Black History Month assembly? Because then we will have a deadline for when the movie has to be done by.
ReplyDeleteI will find out the date...I think late February
ReplyDeleterough story line, then sketch the shots, collect the props, fine tune script, rehearse, then act, the post production
4 writers is good
2 sketch artists
2 camera operators
this a good place to start...lets make a Abe Lincoln Reference, John Brown, succession, emancipation, confederates, abolitionist,
we want to use and show critical figures and a knowledge of the important vocabulary...maybe even make a scene with Abe Lincoln!!! that would be cool
as a class on monday we will create the rough timeline of our movie
