Amistad

This is a small clip from the movie Amistad.  But it is a worthy video highlighting the slave issue in the United States just prior to the Civil War.

The event is John Quince Adams giving the final speech to the supreme court of the United States.  The verdict here would be the last ruling on the freedom or slavery of black slaves that revolted against there owners.

please post your comments on the video clip, as well please research and share some findings on the Amistad incident, and also research who was John Quincy Adams.

  5. The Black slaves took the ship, Which is actually named "Amistad". This event occured in Febuary of 1839, when Portuguese slave hunters found a large group of Africans and abducted them, and then the slaves took over the boat, and then the boat was seized by the U.S. and that took them to court. Also that The Queen of Spain also wrote a letter because the Slave hunters belonged to her kingdom.

  19. quincy adams He was also an American diplomat and served in both the Senate and House of Representatives. He was a member of the Federalist, Democratic-Republican, National Republican, and later Anti-Masonic and Whig parties. Adams was the son of President John Adams and Abigail Adams. The name "Quincy" came from Abigail's maternal grandfather, Colonel John Quincy, after whom Quincy, Massachusetts, is named.[1][pn 1] As a diplomat, Adams was involved in many international negotiations, and helped formulate the Monroe Doctrine as Secretary of State. Historians agree he was one of the great diplomats in American history.[2]
