Can Food / Toy Drive

Well a few students have asked me about our participation in the can food drive.  There have been years where my class has dominated this event.  Winning 3 times and at our climax fundraising over 3000 items 3 years ago.

Since then my class has had a minimal impact on this worthy event (reflective of the students and teacher -myself)

This class has a motivation and positive energy that inspires me to want to comeback to past glories.

If you want to make a lasting impact and push ourselves to the max in this crusade then let me know.  To collect 3000 items 3 years ago was a monumental task and required dedication sacrifice and a plan.

this has been my winning formula:
20 items per students
$10 per student

roughly we could raise

20 x 25 = 500 items
10 x 25 = $250 and that = 1200 diapers

that would be 1700 items.  The second largest total my class has ever collected ( when I got 3000 I had a class size of 38 students)

doable? yes but only if we have 100 percent participation and commitment!!!! and as we have discovered through bully awareness it takes a lot to follow through even with the best laid plans!!!

what do you think???

  1. I think that this Formula gives me hope and made me smile the widest I have ever smiled, because we're probably the only class with a "formula" and I would definitely agree with it. It seems like a plausible sum, 1700 items. I would think that anyone could get 20 items with ease, over a period of time, so there's no hardship there either, and of course, you could bring all that in one moment too. The only thing Im worried about is, in fact, the participation. People definitely have been blessed to have access to such goods, and that would make it simple, but to actually try and bring the goods, that would require commitment, as Mr. Cheney has said.

  2. i agree with taha that its good that only our class is a class with a plan and it is very important that all of us contribute to the food drive because if half of us don't participate in the food drive then we might not get as much things as we could.

  3. that is a good idea but do u think our entire class is willing to give that much.ms jaffer class has 50 items and i dont think everyone in her class is giving.

btw baby formula=$=1 can =10 pts.

    ReplyDelete
  4. if everyone participates we can beat ms.jaffers class :D

  5. Participation means 100% involvement with a minimum buy in of 20 items on $ 10 per student

and food and money collected by tuesday of next week!!!

and you tell no friends, teacher, or class about our plan...if they get a hint that Cheney's class is coming out of retirement they might be able to defeat us!!!

BUT if we win I want to donate our winning prize to the girls to women team and support the local women's shelter

thus we contribute to two worthy causes and we get nothing in return other then the satisfaction and knowledge that we have accomplished something good, pure, genuine.

lets operate under the theme of surprise attack

  6. i think this is doable. it doesnt sound too hard and i think everyone wants to win not just for bragging rights (because it is fun to brag-a little bit-about how you won.) but for helping the cause and the people who need it. so i do think we can achieve this goal. and if we try really hard, we might surpass it.

  7. that would be great i already bought pasta im bringing in some pasta sauce to go with it...we better win!!

  9. We will win the division if there is 100% particpation, i am willing to give money and beat merraro's class :)

  10. I think that its important that we don't tell anybody our plan that are outside of 8/7 because they might come up with a plan themselves. I also think that cheney has some good ideas about giving our prize to the girls to women group.. hopefully the whole class participates and we could collect a bunch of food and win from the whole school :)

  11. We could pretend like we don't want to win and the last day to bring in food can drives we can put up all the 1,700 worth of can foods paper's up and trick them ?

    ReplyDelete
  12. C'mon 8/7 we can do it, beat merraro's class WOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT

    ReplyDelete
  13. thats a good plan and think we can do it because our class is doing alot that requires a lot of detacation i dont think it will be hard, dont worry mr.cheney Mrs merero may have a lead start but i am positive we will get our boost in the long run

  14. The challenge is not other classes it is ourselves!!! We meet our self imposed challenges then good things will happen. It has nothing to do with other people. Those distractions avoid us from focusing on our goals. Stay true to the cause

  15. yee niida !!! weree gonna winn !!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. i think this is a good plan, and putting th money to another worthy cause is a great idea. were gonna need alot of dedication for this task but i believe we can get do this.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i also think it is a good plan to donate the prize money to girls to women because then we are not just helping one good cause but 2. i am commited 100% but im not sure about everyone else. i know we can do it! we're going to win!

  18. The food drive and toy bank...They're both worthy causes. What we donate will go a long way for someone or a family, maybe even a whole community.IF everyone can donate at least 10 dollars,or 20 items we could accomplish not only a goal that you can remember talking about, but develop teamwork skills, leading to better school performance and we can help people who don't have as much as us(is that inequity,or is it awareness?).I think the only thing after that would be needed would be reminders.

  19. I think its a great idea and we are putting effort for a great cause, when the people recive the food theyll thank us even if they dont know us and we are helping take out hunger from our world but this idea will only work if everyone participates.

  20. this is a good plan and it will work this is a great formula and dont worry about people not contributing cause there will be 100 percent contrtbuting.

  21. 20 items AND 10 $ from every student - cash by Tuesday of next week

    ReplyDelete
  22. YEAH WE CAN DO THIS IM IN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. this is a good plan, im a particapate !

    ReplyDelete
  24. yah im in i do it every year:D i think this year we are going to put mrcheney clas back on top.if we rasis 1700 items we will be dong a good thing to the food drive.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think that this will be a great event. To me its not about beating other classes or winning a prize, its about giving things to people in need.

    ReplyDelete
  26. this is a really good idea if everyone trys thier hardest we can make more then 1700 items.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i think that this is going to be a good idea and i think that we are going to be able to do it. i think that this is doable because it doesn't sound so hard, but i am still not sure if our whole class is going to participate in this event.

i also think that we should donate the prize money to the GIRLS to WOMEN's becuae since we did all this donation (if we whole class participate) i think that our class will donate this too and after all it is for a good cause. so i think that we should donate this money instead of having a sub lunch, because since we did all this donation for the food bank so that they can donate it to the people who don't get enough food and when we win we are going to waste more of that money on food, even though we get enough food to eat and then it is going to be point less donating food when we will waste food and money on people who don't need food.so insted of having a sub lunch i think that we donate tis money to the GIRLS to WOMENS.

  28. i agree with who ever. not in a typy mode tday

    ReplyDelete
  29. i thnk this idea is great we can do it but it's going to take a great effort to.also bringing in $10 would be awesome but getting all was us to do that is going to take while
if we win ,which we are ,i liked to donate to the girls to woman's group.

  30. when should we start bringing the food and money in?

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes the satisfaction of knowing you helped a family should be a much stronger feeling then who we are gonna beat.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lets get it started...who will be the first to bring in 10 dollars???

thus far a few people have already donated food items!!! Shout outs to Pamela, Janat, Vanessa...if I missed anybody then equal shout outs for you

    ReplyDelete
  33. i agree with pamela, we shouldnt be doing this 4 a prize or to beat other classes, but to help a worthy cause. and i am on bored 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  34. she is both...my jokes are getting old

lets bring in the gear WEDNESDAY

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lol, i already got mines, im going to give $15 :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bang On...anybody going to be able to top Talwinder's Cash??? Hey Adam remember how long it took for you to get the 2 bucks for Terry Fox??? maybe a little faster this time...or else watch for Bailee

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lol, i might even contribute more for the cause.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, i wouldn't define it as a cause but a food bank .. and for the toy drive aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So far I've given 10 dollars,on tuesday morning.I plan on bringing more money, and I do plan on participating in helping keep the ''project'' organized.I could help with something like the item count and which items we have...Kind of like inventory? Charitable Inventory...

    ReplyDelete
  40. I could maybe help collect and keep count of the money being sent by 8/7 ..

    ReplyDelete
  41. This sounds great

Shout out for Gurinder, Talwinder, Rukyie for bringing in the first bits of cash!!!

and thanks for Gurinder and Talwinder volunteering to take an active leadership role!!!

    join aboard this leadership train!!!!

  42. cough cough

how come 8B already asking if its true we have over 1000 items!!!!

in a word STOIC...less talk and more dedication to our goals...we want to shock the school with our total...there will be no shock if you tell people.

    ReplyDelete
  43. How bout we tell 8B we were joking.. i guess but i never spilled the lie ..

    ReplyDelete
  44. im good with money and keeping track of things soo if talwinder is going to keep track of money then i can keep track of who brings in what for the food drive.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bringing in 20 food cans tommorow :D

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'll bring food or money mostly food because all the trips I had to pay for it was over 100$ so food for sure

    ReplyDelete
  47. our first day of our drive score a D+, Lets see how committed we are to the cause today, I urge someone to take the leadership role of inspiring and communicating to students to get on board!!! and lets hope for a A+ today

    ReplyDelete
  48. everything is going smoothly more people brought in money today.

    ReplyDelete
  49. i think were progressing well but we should try to bring more things in if we are at a D+

    ReplyDelete
  50. It seems we have made good progress today. Lets rank it a B-....agree or disagree?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am going to participate in the food drive but I am looking for items that will value the people at the food bank.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes bringing in important items is crucial. Baby items and healthy food. Junk food is cheap but its unhealthy and all humans deserve more then just cheap junk food.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think we can win the food drive because today in the morning announcements they said that we were third and everyone has still not brought in things so if everyone starts participating more we have a pretty good chance of winning... we are in third place.

If we win I think we should donate the prize money to GRILS TO WOMEN instead of having a sub lunch because we all come from RICH families and we can all afford to go to MR.SUB or SUBWAY and have our parents pay for it but the poor people c'ant afford that so we should try to make them happy. For example some of my family back home in SOMALIA are not as rich as I am but I still donate money to make them happy. So insted of having a sub lunch I we should donate the money to the GIRLS TO WOMEN foundation .

    ReplyDelete
  54. Abdullahi i think Ms.Howell would love that but girls2women is going to the shelter on Monday (if you were thinking about sending the money to the shelter that is)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree for the girls to woman foundation, but last as i checked it is due on friday, and then food dirve is done on thursday i beilive so it is perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The girls to women will have other worthy fundraisers that we can contribute to if we miss the toy drive deadline.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ya thats a good idea. were a little behind on can food items but we passed our goal of 250$ sooooooooo id say we are going to win

    ReplyDelete
  58. i hope your rite steph ms.soladarios's class is itching to beat us as is ms.merarro's class

    ReplyDelete
  59. We are way past there, goal first of all we already beat them by the amount of how much food items in total and second of all putting in the money makes a phenomenal input and ad-dons to the food items
