this is the link Ms. Ang posted in her response to the Rick Mercer rant on bullies.
Check out her response on the post (Ender's Game is her profile name)
This is indeed something our class could take the lead in at BHJMS.
check out the link and post a comment about it, and how we could or if you want to try and do this at BHJMS.
A little late in the game here, but after some thought i wanted to share about my take on bullies and bullying:
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their insecurities. Even the most apparently confident among us have some fear, whether of failure or being rejected. I think bullying is just ONE of the ways people mask and hide and deal with these insecurities. It is a consequence of an emotional inadequacy. People that resort to bullying to protect themselves may have learned these behaviours from the adults around them, including their parents, or perhaps older siblings, neighbourhood "idols".
Bullying can be and IS a VERY serious issue. Perhaps here at Beaumonde we have not seen a case of very severe bullying. Children and teens that are the subject of constant bullying can suffer depression, become severely isolated, develop serious emotional issues and have even changed schools or in the worst scenario, taken their own lives. It is not something to be taken lightly and not everyone can simply walk away.
What can we do?
there is someone i know that was bullied serverly and had been goining on for a day or two but it was so bad that the person had not been talking at all and kinda went into depression
ReplyDeleteit seems like a good idea because bullying is a big issue and can lead kids into a depressed state. but to me the idea seems a bit hard to complete because some kids won't really care about it. although even with that said i think it is a good idea and we should try it.
ReplyDeletei actually know a kid he is a close family friend and he was tooken out of school because he was bullied soo bad... he would see the bully on the street and just freeze.
ReplyDeletebut alyssa i understand your point but most of the time it leads to suicide not really going into to the fact of becoming depressee for the rest of your middle school life you are saying if a i get bullied i rather be depressed from it. i would rather just say depression leads to suicide and it kills you on the inside to see that you are sickend from the fact that bullying is the worst thing that can happend in your life. and also i know everyone has been bullied in there life and has been depressed just like me and it is really hurtful we should start a club to stop bullying in the school yard.{but for your info if this club gets started im not running it or joining it!!}
ReplyDeletebullies do bad things because they have problems in life so they think their problems will lessen if they go and hurt other people that are weaker than them also they can become bullies to become part of some group.
ReplyDeletewe can try and solve this issue by helping the pearson that is being bullied

ReplyDeletei think at beaumonde we could have an assembly or something, but everyone atleast in middle school knows wat bullying is and wat it can lead to so even though someone is getting bullied no one really tells anyone or there just afaird and bullies like it when someones jets really depressed or stands up for themsleves so there would have been a fight and thats one thing bullies want
ReplyDeletemanga/anime-rulez is right since bullies pick on people easir then them because they know they won't do anything
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the world without bullying, it would be marvelous, people shaking hands saying please and thank you people respecting others as well as themselves and showing values like kindness and caring, teamwork etc.
ReplyDeleteBut can we really make this happen can we?
think about it.
Jan 101 i think thats a great idea we could have an assembly that shows what bullying really looks like and then maybe we could give out a question and let the audience think about it.
ReplyDeleteBullying affects people around the world everyday. It will never stop. Bullying can leed to anger, depression, hate, then the worst of all. Suicide. Most kids don't care about bullying that happens to their classmates because their afraid. Parents mostly care because they do not want their children to face bullying. Kids should tell their parents if their getting bullyed but their afraid. Kids and parents should come together and do something about bullying.
ReplyDeletei think telling the bullies to stop or give them detention wont stop them from bulling people who bully other kids should go to jail or juvy because bullying is just as bad as murder, kidnapping, and other crimes because bulling can cause depression or suicide this is what all these other crimes cause bulling is a crime to.
ReplyDeleteknow that tci is good for anti-bullying because if you are seen beinng bullied the bully is suspended and the victim has a choice of calling the police "if" its serious and the victim is kept at home incase the bully comes to school to beat him up
ReplyDeletei think its a great idea to be apart of this initative beacuse the best power against bulling is to educate people on when and where bulling happens so if they reconise it they can tell a teacher to help stop it and it will educate those who think bulling is nothing that serious
ReplyDelete@ canadain leafs juvy thats a bit harsh people who bully usaully have a hidden agenda something that happened to them that is forcing them to take their anger out on others so maybe rehabilitation is a better idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat points
ReplyDelete- an assembly , this has been done before and the ability for an assembly to create change is small, we do it because its easy and we can pat ourselves on the back and say we did it, but overall its powerless
- lets do something new and different to create awarness
Bullying is not easy to explain and not all bullies share the same character traits or limitations. Its perhaps too easy to say bullies are bad people that have problems, what if they are good people with strong vales but still force their will and desire on people - thus bully people.
bullies are not just big strong people that pick on smaller people. This is too easy and if this was the case we could have solved it. Its far more complex and difficult to see. Just because we don't see bullying doesn't mean its not happening. In fact it could be happening in our school, grade, class right now
some people need to control anger and not take it out on random people who never did anything to u unless they did
ReplyDelete@ elpresidente are you sure rehabilitation would would even if it did it would takes months or years even
ReplyDeletei think that it is a great idea to be apart of this initative because there is alot of bulling happening now days and i think we should do something about it. even though i think that some people would not really care about it i think that we should still try and explain to them that bulling is a really bad thing and we should not bully other people. so i think we should take part in this initative, and help stop bulling.
ReplyDeleteyea i agree with u cheney but then wat can people even do about bullying , its not like its just going to disappear all by itslef and not many people admit they get bullied or would tell anyone.how can bullying be happening right now????we are all in the same room and everyone is sitting beside some one so how can someone bully somelike with out ANY one knowing??
ReplyDelete@vanessa i didn't say that getting bullied will lead you to depression, i said that it CAN lead to depression.
ReplyDelete@vannessa thats a tad hipocrytical gunning for a new club but not joining it ur self that undermines how important your message may be
ReplyDelete@sharpshooter who says it would take months or years and even if it did it would ultimately benifit the induvidual in the future so the time it takes is of unsignifigance
ReplyDelete@master cheif im not saying that tci is a bad school but in my opinion, if they have to go to that length to be anti-bullying, then there has been a lot of bullying in the past. now i have no background knowledge of tci so i could be wrong, but this is just my opinion.
ReplyDeletethe one who would be bullied such as the term(nerds) will become very successful in the future
ReplyDeleteand the so called (the ones who run the school by fear are going to waste their money on bear or whisky and end up in a apartment living with their mothers and begging for money from random people in a bar
everyone gets bullyed or being the bully at somepoint most of the time it happens out of inosence and when i say that i mean the little harmless jokes we do about each other e.g mr.cheneys jokes. now in our generation of kids (from my point of view) in elemntary school is becoming less then i asume is becoming in high school
ReplyDeletei agree with mr.cheney we can't stop bulling but if we have a friend who was not a bully before but then became a bully because he/she started playing with people how were bully's. We can explain and try to stop he/she from hanging out with them and bullying other people. i know we can't stop bulling around the whole world. this is how i thhink we can stop atleast one person from bulling and if everyone can do this i think we can stop bulling. this is how i think we can stop bulling but i think we might not be able to stop bulling.
ReplyDelete@camoren that depends if that6 is going to happen because what rick mercer said that his friendd got bullyed everyday but he was smart and now he owns a sucsessfl gameing bisness so its now what the bullys make of you but its what you make of yourself
ReplyDeleteOne school I read about had pink Wednesdays. Every Wednesday, everyone in the school in support of anti-bullying would wear something pink. It is a visual reminder, a way to show that the larger population is against bullying. Maybe this can take the power of bullying away. We make a statement, by wearing pink, that we don't tolerate it, we don't think it's cool, and that it is not going to make you popular, or liked.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there is a way to take this further as a research project? Could we test the effectiveness of such a campaign somehow? Like a before and after evaluation??? We could make the news =)
yeah , i agree with u Mrs.Ang but also we should have it another colour , it would be really cool and everyone enjoys to dress down but i really hopr there doing it for the anti-bullying not just dress down and it would be really fun if we did do a campaign :)
ReplyDeleteYes, a colour day would be a great new idea (pink or orange). but not a dress down day (done to often)
ReplyDeleteand some type of research to monitor our success would be new.
@ Janat bullying has a lasting effect so that the bullied alters their behaviour regardless if the bully is bullying at the moment. So someone in our class may be hesitant to post a comment out of fear of being bullied later. So yes it could be happening right now.
The world has been around a long time and significant change will take time. To hope for a easy and fast turn around would imply that it is an simple problem. Like equality, environment etc, these quests are life long missions and may indeed take longer then our lifetimes to see its completion. but that makes it all that more important to get started on something new and sustainable. We are here to encourage others to build on our leads. That being if we take the lead and do something meaningful.
