Hello Team,
So our bully rants and uniform discussion have seemingly fizzled out.
Here are some final thoughts:
Ms. Ang proposed an opportunity to take an active lead in anti bully awareness at Beaumonde heights and seemingly everybody agreed and took an opinion on the bullying issue. Most agreed that bullying was wrong and indeed something should be done.
Then went it came time to plan and take a lead in planning an initiative our agreement and awareness lead to inaction. This is a telling reality. WE all agreed that this was wrong and that we should do something about it but were unable to do anything about it. Motivation can not be forced it must be found and discovered within. WE didn't find it, and this is ok, we cant fake it.
But this is why in our world bullying, racism, prejudice, environmental decay exists and may always exist cause when we as a group collectively agree that something is wrong and we are still unable to be a spark plug for change.
Thus perhaps WE are the biggest problem in creating a wonderful equitable and clean world.
It also speaks volumes about the characters in our society and throughout history that have dedicated so much to making meaningful change (Gandhi, MLK, Churchill, ect). They have known what we have know but have used that knowledge simply as a stepping stone to creating change. This type of dedication is in a word amazing.
So we may conveniently blame others for the problems of the world but this moment highlights the real problem. Thats you and I. Even with the proper knowledge and strong values we collectively do nothing.
please comment:
what you say is true but we need a leader to lead us someone who everyone listens to looks up to and respects for us to hel destroy bullying and to save the enviroment and the people who are in poverty
ReplyDeleteI dont get what were suppose to be posting :| ?
ReplyDelete(Specifically aimed at students)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we dont do anything because it doesnt fit into routine, and that we are too lazy to fit it in, and to make time for it. If we can make time for anything, because we have all the time in the world, then we can do anything, and we have all the time in the world, because we come to school for 6 hours, and the rest of the 7 hours at home, we can do as we wish. But thats not all, all this can occur at school also, and anywhere else that you go to. We must make time, not fit it into routine, we must take action, and do whats right. and we mustnt shy away from any opportunities, because doors open, and close. Most of us never do this, and the door closes, never to be open again.
No leader Master Chief? really.
ReplyDeletesome leaders inspire and educate and pray that the masses will assume control!
We do have a lot of time during our day
ReplyDeleteI agree that people are always going to be rasist and they might still be bullying because it depends on what kind of enviroment you grow up in and what your parents teach you. And we also need a leader because people usually look up to leaders and see if their making the right desison and they might think to make that desison too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we are the biggest problem and we should think it over. Our school as over 500 people and there wasn't anyone that took the thought of ''Hey this week is bullying awarenesss week, shouldn't I ask Ms.Jackson?'' into consideration. One person can make a huge difference,so how many differences could a whole school make? Maybe enough to eliminate bullying all together. On the other side, people aren't aware of these events.I had no idea that it was bullying awareness week until I read this post and when I read the other post on bullying. These types of events need to be promoted and people need to be reminded of these everyday,so one day there will be no problems like this.
ReplyDeleteThings like having a whole calender filled with these types of causes would help greatly, but then again:I,if not we can just go home and watch Television or play on the computer instead of sitting down and thinking about these things and how I/we can make a difference.
we never do anything when we see poverty like in a war or when we take money so that the can rot on the streets. does anyone care if they see a person living in a cardboard box
ReplyDeleteYes, we need a leader (Zak) because he is the president and he should've made a change in the school .. yes we the students and staff members should do it too but the president should've made a 'educational date' of were all of us stand up to the bully awareness.
ReplyDeleteOh okay, i get it.
ReplyDeleteSo uhh , in my opinion, i guess that were werent prepared to take action in the bullying. I mean we had time and everything, but like people werent really into doing anything about bullying. If someone were to bring it up then yeah we would do something about it, but since noone did, then we didnt do anything about it. I think thats what were talking about.. right?
I agree talha we dont make the time for things like environmental problems or bullying. we do need to take action, if we all work together we could make something happen.
ReplyDeleteeven if you say this there isn't much we can do about these problems. sure we can help a friend out when there being bullied or clean garbage on earth day, but the bully wont stop just because you helped one person out and other people in the community will still litter so even if we try we cant really suceed as much as MLK,or Ghandi because they were older and had more of an idea about what was going on in the world.sure we can try but were gonna need someone who is willing to lead us in these things like when MLK leaded all those people to make his dream come true
ReplyDeletei agree with this because we blame and tell other people to do stuff like unplug your tv when your not using it but we don't actually do that. so we tell people to do stuff to help the earth out but when it comes time to do something like that, we dont do anything.
ReplyDeletewe can be the change for the stop of bullying and racisum etc. but to get people to agree and listen that is key because when people see you have a point and are on your side then the change will start. look for example Craig Kielburger he read the article about that boy that got killed from child laibour in Pakistan, he started his campaign Me to We and now hes got over 50 000 kids across canada (including me) tring to put an end in poverty so as your can see getting people involved is key into making change
ReplyDeleteis expecting one person a leader to take the lead and direct change a copout??? this again means its not our fault. by blaming others we can relax from our own responsibility?
ReplyDeleteYes i agree with cripple. his comment is very well thought out and orginized.
ReplyDeletebullying is just a stupid way to get power over their inferiors.they only strike fear to their opponents and the reason that the bullies have friends is that their friends are afriad of them and don't want to get how the saay ruff em up
ReplyDeleteyes, i agree that we did do this; but it seems when we hear something we agree with it, but when it comes to doing something about it we jut forget it and move on.
ReplyDeleteWE all do this, everyday to many diffrent things.
So we got to try our best and follow up with it,till' ( we're done mabye).?
Everyone is aware of what is going on in our world today, but nobody really has any motivation to do something about it. Everybody will act as if nothing is wrong though they know there are all sorts of problems affecting us today.
ReplyDeleteFrom my previous comment, we can change the context from school and after school, to work and after work, but there are also other components in life for adults, like studying for something, grocery shopping, or even going to the gym.
ReplyDelete@Pharoah What if the problem is just that I don't take initiative. All it takes to start a change is initiative and dedication. On the other side, humans are the most complex systems on the planet so we can't just give one missing character trait label to anyone.
ReplyDeleteAlso,is thinking of someone else that has it worse than me mean that I am putting myself over someone else;leading to inequity,or is it awareness?
yea so if all of us are willing to do it , it can really happen and there would be change so we need to actually do something other then just saying we do it but actaly do nothing like this
ReplyDeleteYou are right mr.cheney everybody says they are going to do this and that but when it comes time to do somthing very few step up.Nothing will change until people who say they are going to do somthing acutally do it until that happens every thing will be the same people will get bullied poverty and crime will grow.
ReplyDeleteinequity vs awareness - insightful
ReplyDeletei agree with alyssa most people tell you to do stuff and in the end when there suposed to do it they dont.using the earth is a great example. people are always telling us to not litter or to save water and then the person who tells you ends up not taking there own advice.
ReplyDelete@gurinder did you ever have the thought of "hey its bullying awareness week we should talk to mrs jackson" why didn't you do anything? if you thought we should do something, you could've done it. you could've been one of those people (for example Ghandi) who knew they should do something and instead of not doing anything, you did because you knew it was the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteBut mr cheney in the world theres only a few of those kinds of leaders that assume all that control because they either have school or work. but people like Craig Keilburger there career is talking to kids about poverty before he started the foundation he had alot of free time on him but people like me i play for a high level soccer team and i have practice like three times a week so i have no time on my hands for me to give to a anti bullying foundation or eco foundation so people have to choose:Helping people or that true love of a sport or something else
ReplyDeletewe should be leaders not followers
ReplyDeletewe should learn to follow our self if you know what i mean ,we should be able to encourage yourself to do things that don't really affect to you but matters to other that changes their life to something better.
for example : enviroment issues- i seen people throw trash on the ground, what i do is tell them to pick up, they say it doesn't really matter it's don't going to affect them.
@ Ultimate Dragovian,
ReplyDeleteHumans are very complex, but everything in a person and could have one single defect, and that would be their ruin, but what you say is true. No, it does not mean that its inequity, but in fact to remove the malicious bully system from the list of a person's issues.
@ Nida
ReplyDeleteIs Racism the only thing that provokes a bully?
the biggest problem that is causing everything is the world now im not blamig the world for the whole reason why are lives are miserable im saying that we do everything in our path to make things right but there not we tend to blame people but we dont realize that it is what we do that makes life miserable for us like when you litter you are making your life worse and it is kind of like telling someone that they are not improtant.becaus ehtey have no life or anythinng it is like carma what goes around comes around and when you do something to someone it is like you will have a bad day or a bad moment because of your behavoiur towards someone and that is kind of saying the world is nothing when you litter.
ReplyDelete( Master Chief ) we do not need a leader but someone to start an idea to get us going. ( Master Chief ) Everyone can be a leader. You need an idea to get more ideas or support that idea. One's thought can be the thought that can get powerful enough to change the world. eg. Ghandi's theory was if you want to get something you get it with peace. That was his theory and with support from other people Ghandi made India free from the British.
ReplyDeleteyes we all have personal lives that sometimes make it difficult to take a lead in the world. But we get this because someone else dedicated their lives for us.
ReplyDeletefor example playing soccer three times a week is because soldiers faught and died for our freedom.
perhaps he have a moral responsibility to fight for our future generations like our previous ones have done for us.
@nida Crippled Egyptian Pharoah is right its not only Racism that bothers a bully. it can be the little things like your getting higher grades then them. bullys bully cuz they think its a way to get over something thats botter them they.making someone feel bad is a way to make them feel good but is it really???
ReplyDelete@Niida .. stephanie and crippled kid make a point .. bullys dont bother other people because of their race .. it could be for many other reason.
ReplyDeletewe should not rely on other people that we call leaders to take initiative and start doing something about a problem we should fix. this just comes back to the problem: we come up with ideas to fix a problem but never actually do anything about it. if we call someone a leader but they dont fix a problem, it doesnt mean that we have no responsibilities. we actually have more responsibilites because we should take the initiative and do something about it.
ReplyDeletei say we should do what we think is right.most people always go with there gut or go with there heart. if no one is taking initiative then why dont you step up to the plate. somtimes other people dont want to be leaders so you should be one.if your a leader it does not mean your the one who has to do all the work or do everything being a leader means you are the one who has certain responsibailtys but your not the one who has to be perfect.no one is perfect even if they seem that way.
ReplyDelete@mr cheney very insightful comment (the question) and i belive you are correct however its not to late to spark a change its possible for us to work togther and put all the ideas stated for example to tell ms jackson, the ideas are a great start but actions speak greater than words, and i believe we are a very capable group of individuals that are more than competant at creating a solution. So how about we all be the leaders and work toghter toward our common goal.
ReplyDelete@El Presidente
ReplyDeletewords are cheap unless backed by action.
and we have a wonderful class but thats why this is so telling. being great, wonderful, insightful people can mean nothing. An opportunity wasted by US (teacher included).
Is there time to change - in a word "absolutely"
will we? we shall see!
2talwinder you are right i should have created a date for these important prombles beacuse you the students have given me a postion of power and with power does come resposiblity but im human and i surender to the fact that i do make mistakes and that is was an opurtunity not taken however, if one person doesnt step up to the plate its an oppurtunity for another to do so.
ReplyDeletePrime Ministers are symbolically the Captain of the ship and when it goes down the Captain goes down with it.
ReplyDeletebut its easy for the rest to blame one person for a class failure. These changes will not come from one person. perhaps thats another problem, we are so focused on the SUPERHERO mentality, that one person will solve our problems that we have neglected to realize the responsibility of the masses.
History loves to focus on people (MLK, Gandhi, Churchill) but what made them successful were the masses and people that believed and made their visions a reality.
mistakes happen...but so few learn and get better for them...perhaps this is a mistake the Prime Minister can learn from but alas we are all equally to blame and we must ALL learn from our mistake.
@ Zak, you are the man .. your like the next obama but in our school .. you should have took action and did something about the bullying
ReplyDelete@ cripple, stephanie and talwinder. I didnt write that bullying is because of rasism i wrote that their is probably always going to be rasism and there might always be bullying, two different ideas.
ReplyDelete@nida, do you supprt what yur saying?
ReplyDeleteand when writing make it more clear for thers to understand plzzzzzzz!
@talwinder i understand it was an oppurtunity not taken but when you lose is the greatest time to make your selves stronger symbolicly i lost and i intend on learning from this mistake thanks for your opponion.
ReplyDelete@talwinder i agree that because Zak is incharge an that he should of done somthing baout it, but what could he do ?
ReplyDeleteI dont think that people should blame other people for not speaking up. I think that its their own fault and they should of spoke up at the right time.
ReplyDeleteheli is right we dont need to follow others but be leaders. But people always seem to want to be a follower instead of being leaders.
ReplyDeletePeople say that you should be leaders but no one really does anything actions speak louder then words.
Zak could've made atleast an annoucment on bullying or made an asssembly etc.
ReplyDelete@ Talwinder your right the students we the students (grd.8's) voted for zac to be the leader and i say when we give him ideas he should try to do something like bout the girls change i mentioned it to zac and now what are we going to get it. i say that zac needs to be more of a leader by trying to get our school what we need most and then the mirro 4 the girls bathroom
ReplyDeletestephanie & Talwinder even though you say this we cant put all the pressure on Zak.What i mean is maybe as a class we could all do something to help out but with Zak (and Mr.Cheney) leading us.
ReplyDeletei know that why he has nicole deputie pm and the rest of the bac to help him but most people look up to zac cuz he is the pm
ReplyDeleteyea but even if zak would want to get a mirror for the girls change room isnt ms.jackson actually the one whos gonna get it like buy it????
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI know I've been completely out of the loop, but enjoyed reading and am hoping to even read "We All Fall Down" with you. I've always wanted to read that novel.
So it seems that we have consensus that we should do something, but no one has felt confident enough to say, "I'll do it". Fair enough. Perhaps we need a goal to work towards.
here is a link: http://www.pinkshirtday.ca/
This is the mark off date: in Feb 2011 some time. I am willing to help. We could enlist the BAC, and we could also get help from Mrs. Merraro because she is chair of the Safe Schools committee here. It gives us enough time to get our act together and do something (and as Mr. C states, "not just an assembly!")
ok, bell has rung. gotta go!
why is everyone so focused on getting a mirror in the girls change room?? there are far better issuses to be focused on. anyways a mirror in the girls change room the girls will just take more time getting ready.
ReplyDeleteyea thats a good idea , this time we should actually really DO something other then just talk about it like last time when it was the anti bullying week thingy
ReplyDelete
